About the corn class & tasting

For us Mexicans, corn represents our history, our identity, and the heritage that our impressive pre-colonial civilizations left us. There is no way to come to México and not eat it in at least one of its innumerable preparations. Since our foundation, La Flor de Jamaica has been making tortillas to provide our neighborhood and the market with this basic element in the Mexican diet. We have our own tortillería that gives service from 7 am to 7 pm and produces around one ton of tortillas every single day. 

We will meet at La Flor de Jamaica and will walk inside the Jamaica Market to sample fresh corn and see how people there use it in many different ways. Afterwards, we will enter La Flor de Jamaica´s tortillería to begin with our corn class, where we will answer all your questions and give you lots of facts about corn and its characteristics. You will learn the full process of how tortillas are made, and you will make your own tortilla. At the end our chefs will prepare a tasting in which you will try different traditional dishes prepared from fresh corn and tortillas, to increase your knowledge around this important element in Mexican cuisine.
